BOOK REVIEW: THE SMALLEST KISS

Let me begin by saying that Mathis Malzieu is one of my favorite authors. He has such a way with words that you can’t help but fall in love with his stories.

The first book I read by him was The Boy With the Cuckoo Clock Heart (you can read about it here.) and I just fell in love with it. That is why, when I saw The Smallest Kiss in the library I had to buy it and read it, and let me just tell you, it did not disappoint.

Every year I’m single or alone for Valentine’s day and every year I keep saying next year will be different. Haha.

If you are single or simply alone for Valentine’s day, here are some things you could do to have an awesome day! Continue reading “5 THINGS TO DO IF YOU’RE SINGLE FOR VALENTINE’S DAY”

DAY 20: 5 TYPES OF FAMILY MEMBERS DURING CHRISTMAS

Ah, Christmas… the time of year that you spend with friends and family members. Some of them are great, some not so much, but what would be like without them.

Being one of those people who spends Christmas with her family (and loves it) I kind of noticed a pattern among relatives. So today I want to share with you some types of family members during the holidays.

1. The one that loves Christmas

This person is the one who goes over their head with decorations, gifts and food. You’ll see him/her wearing Christmas jumpers, Santa hats and reindeer antlers.

2. The one who hates Christmas and all family gatherings

This is the one you can see wearing ironical Christmas sweaters and siting alone either drinking or complaining about something. Basically the Grinch.

3. The one who’s there for the drinks

A.K.A the person who’s always with a drink in his/her hands and after a couple of drinks is the loudest and chattiest person around.

4. The one who’s there for the food

Also known as the person who either is a student and is home for the holidays so he/she eats as much as possible or is one of those people who would either eat at someone else’s place than at their home.

5. The one who plays with the kids

This the “cool” aunt/uncle who is accepted by children and teenagers. You will always find them playing with the young ones or talking with the older ones.

What other types of family members do you know?

A REALLY SHORT STORY

One thing you might not know about me is that I love writing even though nowadays I don’t have as  much time to write as I’d like. But as I was going through some old files through my computer I found these short stories and scenes I wrote for my Creative Writing class last year.

Here’s one of the pieces I wrote:

‘I’ve missed this.’ I told him.

‘I’ve missed the sound of waves crashing onto the shore. It’s like the sea sings this beautiful symphony that makes my heart feel safe and my soul at home. I’ve missed the sea breeze, this salty, yet fresh air that invades my lungs and makes my blood rush through my veins. I’ve missed the feeling that warm sand gives me whenever I walk down the beach. But what I’ve missed the most was just looking at the endless blue that makes me feel so small and powerless yet so alive and happy. I can’t believe I’m here again. I love it.’

‘And I love you.’ He said as he hugged me from behind and kissed me on the cheek.

‘I love you too. Thank you.’

‘Thank me for what?’

‘Thank you for everything. Thank you for bringing me here. Thank you for loving me so selflessly. Thank you for making me happy.’

‘No, my dear, thank you. Thank you for coming into my life and making me so immensely happy. Not a minute goes by without feeling grateful for all the love you give me. I couldn’t even imagine my life without you.’

We were looking into each other’s eyes. My heart was pounding so hard I thought it was going to break through my chest. I felt like all my life led to this moment. He kissed me and I swear that when our lips touched, I could taste the next fifty years of my life.

At that moment the alarm went off. I tried to hold on to that moment for as long as I could, but it was too late. I was already waking up.

15 QUOTES THAT WILL MAKE YOU FALL (EVEN MORE) IN LOVE WITH AUTUMN

I was feeling a little uninspired these days… and whenever I feel uninspired I like to read quotes to get myself motivated and well… a little inspired. This time I read some that go hand in hand with the season… and I felt like sharing some of them with you.

  1. Fall has always been my favorite season. The time when everything bursts with its last beauty, as if nature had been saving up all year for the grand finale. ~ Lauren DeStefano
  2. Autumn seemed to arrive suddenly that year. The morning of the first September was crisp and golden as an apple. ~ J. K. Rowling

3.There is something incredibly nostalgic and significant about the annual cascade of autumn leaves. ~ Joe L. Wheeler

4. Autumn carries more gold in its pocket than all the other seasons. ~ Jim Bishop

5.  But then fall comes, kicking summer out on its treacherous ass as it always does one day sometime after the midpoint of September, it stays awhile like an old friend that you have missed. It settles in the way an old friend will settle into your favorite chair and take out his pipe and light it and then fill the afternoon with stories of places he has been and things he has done since last he saw you. ~ Stephen King

6. I loved autumn, the one season of the year that God seemed to have put there just for the beauty of it. ~ Lee Maynard

7. I was drinking in the surroundings: air so crisp you could snap it with your fingers and greens in every lush shade imaginable offset by autumnal flashes of red and yellow. ~ Wendy Delsol

8. It was a beautiful bright autumn day, with air like cider and a sky so blue you could drown in it. ~ Diana Gabaldon

9. Fall colors are funny. They’re so bright and intense and beautiful. It’s like nature is trying to fill you up with color, to saturate you so you can stockpile it before winter turns everything muted and dreary. ~ Siobhan Vivian

10.  Autumn that year painted the countryside in vivid shades of scarlet, saffron and russet, and the days were clear and crisp under harvest skies. ~ Sharon Kay Penman

11. It was one of those perfect fall days when the air is cool enough to wake you up but the sun is also kissing your face. ~ Anita Diamant

12. Autumn is the time of balance and of
sacrifice, a time when the light is defeated by darkness, a time
when night takes over and brings the coming winter. The
ancient wisdom says that those who long for light must face
their inner darkness and overcome it. ~ Tony Riches

13. Autumn teaches us a valuable lesson. During summer, all the green trees are beautiful. But there is no time of the year when the trees are more beautiful than when they are different colors. Diversity adds beauty to our world. ~ Donald L. Hicks

14. I love the start of autumn when the trees in my garden change the colour of their leaves in one last dazzling display. ~ Michael Caine

15. “Autumn is the greatest reminder: It reminds us how dreamlike beauties our earth has and it reminds us how all these beautiful dreams can easily vanish!” ~ Mehmet Murat Ildan

Which one is your favourite?

History and Love: The Young Victoria

I’ve always had a thing for history movies. And for love stories. The Young Victoria has both. It basically tells the story of Queen Victoria’s life before her Coronation and her first years as Queen.

Now, to be honest, I didn’t know much about Queen Victoria (I still don’t), but nevertheless, it was still a wonderful movie to see and to learn from.

Emily Blunt (whom I love), did a wonderful job portraying her. She (and the the producers) made her seem so kind and humane.

You know, when read about royalties or see them on TV, they seem like this untouchable gods and we forget they’re people with feelings and dreams. And this movie did just that. It showed us a young woman who struggles to find her way a queen for her people. And it was beautiful!

The other things I loved about this movie were the costumes and scenery. Ever since I visited Schonbrunn Palace in Austria, I’ve dreamed about attending a ball in a place like that, all dressed up. And this film, somehow gave me a taste of that.

So, if you ever want a love story that lasted through ages, this is a movie for you!

I gave it a 10/10 and I don’t easily do this.
