MOVIE REVIEW: LOVE, ROSIE (2014)

Girl loves boy, boy loves girl, girl and boy can’t seem to find their way to each other.

Rosie (Lily Collins) and Alex (Sam Claflin)are childhood best friends and do everything together. On Rosie’s 18th birthday they go out for drinks and end up kissing. The next they she doesn’t remember anything and he thinks she’s lying, so he decides to go out with another girl. At their prom Rosie sleeps with her date and somehow he manages to lose the condom inside her (what??). She gets pregnant and doesn’t tell Alex. He goes to study in Boston and she stays behind. He gets a girlfriend. She struggles with her life. Her baby daddy comes back. She gets married to him. He breaks up with her girlfriend. She finds out her husband cheats on her and divorces him. Alex gets another girlfriend and gets engaged. Rosie tries to go and stop the wedding, but it’ too late. She gives one hell of an awkward speech at the wedding. She comes back home and opens her own hotel. He gets divorced and comes to see her. The end.

Love, Rosie is one hell of emotional roller coaster. For the characters. And even though I think that the emotional mess from the movie should have reached the audience, it really didn’t. (I actually found it somewhat annoying.)

Sam Calflin and Lily Collins did manage to the a decent job with their characters, even though seeing Sam as a teenager was kind of weird since he really doesn’t look like one. (I mean what kind of a teen looks like that??). But they did make the characters likeable and you rooting for them.

The plot wasn’t too exciting and I felt like it had too many ups and downs in the line of the story. (As you can see in the description above).

There were, however, a couple of scenes that I liked. Like the one when Rosie punches her husband in the face for cheating on him and gets rid of his stuff while ‘Fuck you’ by Lily Allen plays in the background.

Another thing that I like was the soundtrack. I’m a sucker for good music in a movie and this one at least had that.

All in all, I’d say it was an okay movie. It’s the kind of movie that you could watch on a lazy weekend with your girl friends or after a break up, or whatever. Haha.

Verdict: Tell each other how you feel or you both might end up with the wrong people. (And I really don’t want to see this kind of a mess in real life.)
